We’re excited to announce the release of our new executive functioning minigame!
Seb Bugs Out is the first “minisode” in our executive functioning series. It helps students manage the frustration that often comes with starting a task or project, especially when they feel overwhelmed or unsure of where to begin.
The executive functioning minigame is designed to help students:
- Recognize and reframe emotional blockers like frustration and self-doubt
- Identify their own executive functioning challenges
- Build confidence and develop strategies to overcome executive function challenges
- Shift their mindset from “I can’t do this” to “I can figure this out.”
What is Seb Bugs Out About?
In Seb Bugs Out, students step into the role of Seb, a 13-year-old boy with ADHD who struggles with executive functioning tasks and assignments. After reading a short comic that sets the scene, students enter Seb’s imaginative world called the “Brain Domain.” In this world, Seb has to work through common executive functioning challenges to defend his focus and complete his school project. These challenges include:
- Task Tangler: not knowing what to do
- Brain Bully: negative self-talk
- Blah Blah Blog: difficulty understanding why the task/project matters
- Slog Slug: boredom or low motivation
- Sensory Saboteur: distractions and sensory overload
To help Seb stay focused, students build towers based on real-life strategies like the “Step Slicer,” which breaks projects into smaller, more manageable steps.
Seb Bugs Out connects emotional experiences to actionable strategies that students can apply right away. Supporting materials, including a three-day lesson plan and Prep Step Worksheet, make it easy for teachers to integrate the game into existing classroom routines.
How to Use the Minigame
Educators can use this game as part of a class lesson, during one-on-one time, or in a resource room when students need extra support getting started. Here’s how it fits into a short, structured routine:
- Students begin with the Prep Step Worksheet to plan their upcoming task or project.
- Students will play the game for about 10 minutes to practice breaking down challenges and building momentum.
- Students immediately use that momentum to start their real-world task.
- Students complete a Reflection Sheet to reinforce what they learned.
Stay tuned for more executive functioning minigames that will be released over the next few months! Current subscribers can play and access the curriculum by logging into the dashboard.
